The Stutthof Concentration Camp, established by the German forces on 2 September 1939, holds a somber place in history. What began as a camp for civilians soon transformed into a special labor camp and, eventually, a concentration camp. Throughout its dark history, Stutthof held approximately 125,000 prisoners from 13 different European countries, with a devastating toll of 85,000 lives lost. Situated on Polish soil, it was the first German camp in the country and the last to be liberated. Today, the camp site stands as the State Stutthof Museum, preserving its harrowing legacy, including a gas chamber, a crematorium, living quarters, and an SS watchtower.
