Adolf Hitler had several military headquarters in Europe during World War 2. The first one in Eastern Front was built in the middle of Masurian woods near the small town of Ketrzyn (former Rastenburg). Great Masurian Lakes were a natural obstacle for the land force and that is why this place was chosen for building one of the most famous and most secret objects of World War 2 – Wolf’s Lair. The secret service of the Soviets and the Allies never managed to locate this quarter. Not even the local people of Gierloz, who were intrigued with the active life of the nearby forest, didn’t know what was really hidden in there. On July 20th 1944 a mighty explosion shook the quarter, window frames and tree branches were flying in the air. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg brought the bomb while coming to the meeting from Berlin. But the explosion did not kill Hitler. He was just slightly harmed and able to welcome the visit of Mussolini on the same day.
Today it is possible to visit the ruins of this military headquarter of Adolf Hitler with a local, professional guide that is why we offer you an interesting full day tour to famous Wolf’s Lair from Gdansk. Everybody who is interested in the history of World War 2 should definitely visit this place.
Slowinski National Park is renowned for its large, shifting sand dunes. There are mobile dunes up to 42 meters high which can move at a rate of about 9 meters a year, leaving the stumps of dead trees behind them. We will also see Lake Lebsko which is now the third largest lake in Poland and the largest coastal lake on the whole Polish coast.

The deadliest conflict in history, the Second World War began in Europe on September 1 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. It happened in Gdansk, early in the morning, when first shots were fired from German battleship Schleswig-Holstein. The aim was the Polish military transit storehouse at Westerplatte peninsula, located at the entrance to the Port of Gdansk. Today it’s a memorial site with ruins of blockhouses and barracks and a huge monument raised to the memory of 128 heroic Polish soldiers.

However, Westerplatte is not the only place in Gdansk closely related with the Second World War. Since 2008 Museum of the Second World War is located here to present the full history of the most destructive conflict that ever happened and which was especially tough for Polish citizens. Main exhibition will give you complex knowledge about events from the past. Three blocks (“The road to war”, “The horror of war”, “The war’s long shadow” and “Time travel”) are designed to show the war from different perspectives and explain its genesis.
